Sources · analysis · writing · AI that shows its evidence

Faster research. Sharper researchers.

CurTask brings your sources, analysis and writing into one research workspace. The AI reads, sorts and extracts, always with the page and quote behind it. You check, decide and write, so your skills grow with every project. Made for your literature review.

Start free

Free plan with 250 AI credits a month. No card needed.

No page, no answer. Every AI value, matrix cell and citation links to the exact page and quote it came from.

Watch

CurTask in three minutes

From your first paper to your own written argument, with every claim tied to its source.

Why we built it this way

AI should make you a better researcher, not a dependent one.

Handing your thinking to AI feels efficient, but it has a cost. When AI summarises every paper and writes every paragraph, the reading, judging and arguing that make a researcher never happen. This is called cognitive offloading, and educators, supervisors and universities are right to worry about it.

A thesis or article is meant to show what you can think. If AI did the thinking, it isn't really yours, and you'll feel it the moment someone asks you to defend it.

CurTask is built the other way round. The AI takes the slow, mechanical parts of research. The parts that make you a researcher stay with you.

What CurTask's AI does and what you do, step by step
Research stepCurTask's AI doesYou do
Gathering sourcesImports papers, skips duplicates, reads scanned pagesChoose what belongs in your study
ReadingPulls out sample, method and findings, with page and quoteCheck the evidence and decide what matters
AnalysingSuggests codes and themes across your papersAccept, change or reject them, and build the themes
ArguingShows which papers agree, contradict or extend each otherMake the argument and take a position
WritingFlags uncited sentences, checks if a citation fits, formats referencesWrite every sentence
DefendingKeeps every claim linked to its sourceExplain and defend your work

Nothing the AI suggests counts until you accept it. Everything it says shows where it came from.

Today: sources, literature analysis, qualitative coding and writing. Next: analysing your own qualitative and quantitative data.

Built for people doing research

Built by a UPSI senior lecturer for the research he does and the students he teaches.

  • Master's and PhD students

Turn a folder of PDFs into a matrix, themes and a cited chapter.

  • Researchers and academics

Analyse a paper once and reuse it in every project and manuscript.

Stop juggling five tools. CurTask brings them into one workspace:

  • Reference manager
  • Qualitative coding tool
  • Spreadsheet matrix
  • Word processor
  • AI paper reader

One workspace. Three ways to work.

Library, Analysis and Writing all use the same papers, so you never lose your place when you switch.

Library

Drop in PDFs or Word files. CurTask skips duplicates, fills in the details from the DOI, reads scanned pages and compresses PDFs without losing a word of their text.

  • One library for every paper you own
  • Search titles, full text, notes and tags
  • Find new papers and add open-access ones in a click

Analysis

Ask in plain words, get a full column. Describe what you want (for example “sample size and country”) and the AI fills it for every paper, each value with its quote and page.

  • Literature matrix with evidence in every cell
  • Coding with a codebook and coloured strips
  • A synthesis map of themes, and where papers agree or disagree

Writing

Write in sections you can reorder, with your sources beside the draft. Drag a passage in and it arrives as a quote with its citation, still linked to its page.

  • Outline, corkboard and binder views
  • Cite in 8 styles, including APA, MLA, Chicago and IEEE
  • Export to Word, PDF, Markdown or HTML

Reuse across projects

Analyse once, reuse everywhere.

A paper is processed once and recognised by its content, not its file name. Add it to a second project and it arrives with its text, summaries, tags and analyses already attached: no re-reading, no second bill.

  • Details, full text and AI analyses travel with the paper
  • Notes stay in the project you wrote them in
  • Codes are offered for import, never forced

Browser extension

Save papers in one click

Coming soon to Chrome, Edge and Brave: the free Save to CurTask extension puts the paper you're reading in your library (details, PDF, projects, tags and a note) and tells you when there's no PDF to save.

For students

Student plan · RM 25 a month

  • Verify with your university email, no ID upload

Use the address your university gave you; it becomes your sign-in email. No card needed to check.

  • Faster AI and more credits for bigger projects

Analyse your papers, fill your matrix and code your sources with more credits every month.

  • Downgrade any time, your work stays

If you go back to the free plan, your papers, notes and writing stay where they are.

Your research stays yours

Said plainly, because "we take privacy seriously" isn't an answer. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

  • Yours to take, any time

Download everything in one file whenever you like: your papers, notes, codes, matrices and writing, in open formats. Backups are encrypted.

  • AI sees only what the task needs

Your text goes to an AI service only when you use an AI feature, only the parts that feature needs, and it is never used to train AI. Each service, and the country it is in, is named on our list.

  • Private by default

Only you can see your library, notes, codes and writing. Duplicate checks never look across accounts.

  • Never used to train AI

Your papers and writing are never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.

Already using Zotero, NVivo or Elicit?

Keep what works. CurTask reads your own PDFs, fills a literature matrix with the page and quote behind every value, and lets you code and write in the same project.

  • Zotero users: add an AI literature matrix where every value shows its page and quote.
  • NVivo users: code where you read, then write the review with citations in the same project.
  • Elicit users: every value with its page and a quote checked in your own PDF, scanned ones included, then code and write beside it.

Questions people ask

  • What is CurTask?

CurTask is a research workspace where AI does the legwork and you do the thinking. It brings a reference manager, a literature matrix, qualitative coding and a writing tool into one place, with AI that shows the page and quote behind every value and leaves the decisions and the writing to you.

  • Is CurTask free?

Yes, you can start free with no card. The free plan includes 250 AI credits a month to analyse papers and fill your matrix, and you code your papers by hand. The Student and Researcher plans add faster AI, more credits (1,000 and 2,500 a month) and AI that suggests codes across all your papers for you to accept or dismiss.

  • How do I know an AI answer is right?

Every value the AI fills in comes with the page number and the exact quote it came from, checked against your PDF. If no source is found, CurTask says so instead of guessing. AI text stays marked as suggested until you accept it.

  • Can I save papers from my browser?

Soon. A free Save to CurTask extension for Chrome, Edge and Brave is on its way: it will save the paper you're reading (its details, the PDF your own access lets you open, projects, tags and a note) in one click. To hear when it's ready, create a free account and tick "Send me product news by email". Until then, drag PDFs into CurTask or search for papers in the app.

  • Where is my data stored?

Your papers, their text, your notes and your writing are kept on our servers in Malaysia, and so are the backups. Only you can see them, and you can download all of it at any time.

  • Is my work used to train AI?

No. Your papers and writing are never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.

  • Which citation styles does it support?

Eight styles, including APA, MLA, Chicago and IEEE. Your thesis chapters or article compile to Word (DOCX), PDF, Markdown or HTML.

  • Can I use CurTask in Bahasa Melayu?

Yes. The screens are in English and Bahasa Melayu, and each project has its own AI language. Quotes always stay in the language of the paper.
