AI and responsible use
Last updated: 11 October 2026
In plain language
- AI in CurTask suggests. You decide, and you are the author.
- Every AI value shows the page and the exact quote it came from. If there is no source, you see "No source found".
- Nothing the AI writes enters your work until you accept it.
- Your papers and writing are never used to train AI models.
This box is a summary. The sections below are what bind us.
1. What AI does in CurTask
CurTask uses AI to help with the slow parts of a literature review, not to replace your judgement. It can:
- analyse a paper (summary, methods, findings and more) and keep the analysis with the paper, so it is not paid for twice;
- fill matrix columns you describe in your own words;
- help you start a project by drafting a problem statement and research questions from your answers;
- suggest codes, apply a code across papers, and group codes into themes;
- compare papers, suggest a synopsis for a section, and draft an opening paragraph for a theme;
- show, beside the paragraph you are writing, what your papers say that supports, contradicts or extends it, and flag sentences that may need a citation.
2. Where AI runs
No AI runs on your device. Every AI request goes through our own servers in Malaysia to an AI service provider, which may be outside Malaysia and may keep data and logs under its own policy. Only the text a feature needs is sent, and nothing is sent until you start a feature. You agree to this in the End-User Agreement. Each provider's name, country and what it keeps are on the list of AI providers, and exactly what each feature sends is in the privacy policy.
3. Every value has evidence
Every value the AI gives you comes with its evidence: the page number and a quote from your paper. Before you see it, our servers check that the quote really appears, word for word, on that page. If no supporting passage can be found, CurTask shows "No source found" instead of a value. It never shows a value it cannot support.
The dashed evidence line lets you jump from a value, a matrix cell or a citation straight to the passage it came from.
4. Suggested until you accept it
Text and values from the AI are marked "Suggested" until you accept them. You can accept, edit or dismiss each suggestion. Nothing the AI writes becomes part of your manuscript, matrix or codebook on its own.
5. The researcher is the author
You are responsible for your research and your writing. The AI can help you find, organise and phrase, but the ideas, the interpretation and the final text are yours. Read the source before relying on a suggestion, especially for numbers, quotes and claims about what a paper found.
6. Disclosing AI use
Universities and journals have their own rules on using AI. Follow them. To help, each manuscript can produce an AI report: it lists how many AI suggestions (such as inserted citations and quotes) you accepted, edited or discarded. It records counts only, not the text.
7. Your work is not training data
Your papers, notes, codes and writing are never used to train AI models — not by us and not by any AI provider we use. We only use AI providers that do not train on your data, and each one is named on the list of AI providers.
8. Old analyses stay as they were
When we improve the instructions behind an AI feature, analyses you already have are not silently recomputed or changed. You can see when an analysis was made and choose to refresh it; the refresh is shown with its cost before it runs.
9. Limits of AI
AI can be wrong. It can misread a table, miss a nuance, confuse similar studies or reflect biases in what it learned from. A quote that exists on the page may still be taken out of context. Treat every suggestion as a starting point to check, not as a fact.
10. What we don't do
- We don't write whole papers or theses for you.
- We don't claim to detect AI-written text, and CurTask is not a plagiarism or AI-detection tool.
- We don't show AI output without its source.
- We don't share your work with other users.
