Terms of service

In plain language

  • Your papers, notes and writing stay yours. We use them only to run CurTask for you.
  • To use CurTask you accept our End-User Agreement, and again whenever it changes.
  • Only upload files you have the right to use.
  • AI in CurTask suggests; you decide. You are the author of your work and you check what the AI suggests before relying on it.
  • Prices are in Malaysian ringgit in Malaysia and US dollars elsewhere. A period you have paid for keeps its price.
  • The student price is for students who are currently enrolled, using their own university email.

This box is a summary. The sections below are what bind us.

1. Who we are and these terms

CurTask is provided by HackEduTech Labs (202303169641 / LA0059120-V), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, 35900 Tanjong Malim, Perak, Malaysia ("we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us about your use of CurTask: the website, the app and the emails we send. By creating an account you accept them. Our End-User Agreement forms part of these terms: you must accept it to use CurTask, and accept it again when we change it (CurTask asks you when you sign in). Our privacy policy, AI and responsible-use statement and refund policy also apply.

2. Who can use CurTask

You must be 18 or over and able to make a binding agreement. If you use CurTask for your university or employer, you confirm you may accept these terms for that use. During the closed beta, an invitation may be needed to sign up.

3. Your account

Keep your sign-in details safe and don't share your account. We recommend two-step sign-in, which you can turn on in Settings → Security. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at hello@hackedu.tech straight away if you think someone else has used it.

Keep your email address up to date: we use it for sign-in, receipts and account notices.

4. The service and the beta

CurTask helps you manage papers, analyse literature and write. We work to keep it available and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. During the beta, features may change, be added or be removed, and we may pause the service for maintenance. Where a change takes away something you have paid for, we will tell you in advance and treat it fairly.

5. Your content

Everything you upload or create in CurTask — papers, notes, codes, matrices, writing — remains yours. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display it only as needed to provide CurTask to you: for example to read the text of a PDF, compress it, show it to you, back it up and send the parts an AI feature needs to an AI provider, as described in the End-User Agreement and the privacy policy. This permission ends when your content is deleted, apart from backups that expire on their normal schedule.

We never show your content to other users. Short factual values about a published paper (such as a sample size) may be reused for others who have the same paper, without your wording or identity, as the privacy policy explains.

6. Copyright and takedown

You may only upload files you have the right to use, for example papers you obtained lawfully for your own research. You are responsible for that.

Saving PDFs with the browser extension. If you use the Save to CurTask browser extension, it downloads a paper's PDF in your own browser, with your own access, only when you press Save. You are responsible for having the right to download each PDF and to keep a private copy of it for your own research under the licence or subscription you use (for example your university library's or a publisher's terms). Some of those terms do not allow automated or bulk downloading: don't use the extension, including saving several papers at once from a results list, in a way they forbid. The extension never gets around a paywall, login or download limit, and a PDF you save stays in your private library; it is never shared with other users.

If you believe something in CurTask infringes your copyright, email hello@hackedu.tech with the details. We will act on a valid notice, which may include removing the content.

7. Acceptable use

When using CurTask, you must not:

  • upload or create anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
  • try to get into another person's account or data, or test, probe or break our security;
  • disrupt the service, overload it, or use bots, scripts or scraping to access it, other than through the features we provide;
  • create several accounts, or misuse invitations, promotion codes or the student price, to get extra free credits or discounts;
  • resell, rent or share access to CurTask, or use it to build a competing service;
  • use the AI features to produce material intended to deceive, for example presenting AI-generated text as your own work where your institution forbids it.

8. AI features: you are the author

CurTask's AI features make suggestions: analyses, matrix values, codes, themes, insights and draft sentences. The researcher is the author.

  • AI can be wrong. It can misread a paper, miss something or reflect the bias of what it was trained on.
  • Every AI value shows the page and the quote it came from. If no supporting passage can be found, CurTask says "No source found" instead of showing a value.
  • AI text is marked "Suggested" until you accept it. What you accept, edit and publish is your responsibility.
  • Check suggestions against the source before relying on them, and follow your institution's rules on disclosing AI use. Each manuscript can produce an AI report to help you do so.

AI providers. To carry out AI tasks, we use outside AI service providers, which may process the text a feature needs outside Malaysia and may keep data and logs under their own policies. They never train AI models on your data. They are named on our list of AI providers, and the End-User Agreement sets out the rules.

We are not responsible for decisions you make, or work you submit, based on AI suggestions you did not check.

9. Credits

AI features use credits. Before a large job, CurTask shows an estimate. The credits are reserved when the job starts and settled when it ends, so you pay only for what was used and never twice for the same job. A job never starts if your balance can't cover it. Reusing analyses a paper already has costs nothing.

Your plan's monthly credits are added each month and do not carry over to the next month. Top-up credits are valid for 12 months and are used after your monthly credits. Credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred or exchanged for money.

10. Plans, prices and currency

  • Prices. Prices are shown on the pricing page and at checkout, and are final: no Sales and Service Tax (SST) is added while we are below the registration threshold.
  • Currency. In Malaysia, prices are in Malaysian ringgit (MYR), paid by card or FPX online banking. Elsewhere, prices are in US dollars (USD), paid by card. An account keeps the currency of its first payment.
  • Country. Prices depend on the country where you live. If you give a false location (for example by using a VPN to appear to be elsewhere), we may charge the correct price or end the plan.
  • Changes. We may change prices and credit amounts. We will tell you by email before a change affects you, and a period you have already paid for keeps its price.

11. Student price

The student price is only for people who are currently enrolled at a university. To use it, you sign in with the university email given to you and declare that you are enrolled. One university email can be used for only one account. We check once a year by sending a code to that email. If a declaration is false, or you are no longer eligible, we may end student status; your account then moves to another plan at its normal price or to Free.

12. Payments, renewal and cancellation

Payments are handled by our payment provider on its own secure page; we never see your card number or bank login.

  • Card: a plan paid by card renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Settings → Billing; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
  • FPX online banking: you buy one month or one year at a time. It does not renew by itself; we send reminders before it ends.
  • When a paid period ends without renewal, your account moves to the Free plan. Your data is kept; anything over the Free storage limit becomes read-only until you upgrade or make space.

13. Refunds

Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

14. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if a payment is reversed or not made, if we must do so by law, or to protect other users or the service. Where it is reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem and to download your content. If we close your account without you having broken these terms, we refund the unused part of any period you paid for.

You can stop using CurTask at any time.

15. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in Settings → Profile. It is locked straight away and can be restored for 90 days by signing in; after that your research content is deleted permanently. What we keep afterwards, and for how long, is in the privacy policy.

16. Our liability

We provide CurTask with reasonable care and skill. As far as the law allows:

  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, lost opportunities or the outcome of your research or studies;
  • our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Keep your own copies of important work. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.

17. Your rights as a consumer

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 or any other Malaysian law that cannot be excluded by contract.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as CurTask changes. For important changes we will send you an account notice by email before they take effect. If you keep using CurTask after the changes take effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.

19. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. The courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction over any dispute.

20. Language

These terms are available in English and Bahasa Melayu. If the two versions differ, the English version prevails.
