Cookies and analytics

1. No tracking cookies
CurTask does not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across websites. We don't use third-party advertising or social-media trackers.
2. What is stored in your browser
To work, CurTask keeps a few things in your browser's own storage:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your sign-in session | So you stay signed in | Until you sign out or the session ends |
| Theme and language | So pages open the way you chose | Until you change them or clear your browser |
| Offline copies of notes, matrix changes and writing | So your work is saved when the connection drops | Until they reach our servers; removed when you sign out |
| Your "Automatic insights" choice | To remember the switch in the Writing lens | Until you change it |
| The reading engine | So your browser can read the text of your files | Until you clear your browser's storage |
If you use the optional Save to CurTask browser extension, it keeps a few things in its own storage in your browser:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Its connection to your account (a sign-in token, not your password) | So it can save papers to your library | Until you revoke it in Settings → Security or remove the extension |
| Your last choices of projects and tags | So the next save starts with them | Until you remove the extension |
| Saves waiting to be sent | So a save made while offline isn't lost | Until they reach our servers |
| Its settings (for example whether the in-page Save buttons are on) | To remember your choice | Until you remove the extension |
The sign-in step may use a strictly necessary cookie while you sign in. None of these are used for tracking, and the extension sets no cookies of its own.
3. Usage statistics
If "Share anonymous usage statistics" is on in Settings, the app sends anonymous counts of which screens and features are used to our own analytics server in Malaysia. It also sends anonymous counts of a few button presses, such as Start free or Upgrade; no account or content. It uses no cookies and never records your content, names or search words. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", nothing is sent. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.
4. Error reports
When something breaks, the app sends a technical error report, without your content or account details, to our own error-report server so we can fix it.
5. More information
