Comparison
CurTask vs Rayyan: after screening, the analysis and the writing
Checked on 11 October 2026
This page is for students and researchers doing a systematic or scoping review who already screen with Rayyan, or plan to, and want to know where CurTask fits. Rayyan is widely used for screening titles and abstracts with a team, and is known for making that stage quicker and more transparent. CurTask does not screen records or draw PRISMA diagrams. It is built for what comes after: reading the included papers closely, comparing them with evidence, finding themes and writing the review, all in one project.

The included papers, read and compared with evidence
Once screening is done, you are left with a set of included studies and a lot of careful reading. In CurTask, those papers sit in your Global Library, each stored once, with a reader for highlights and notes. Scanned PDFs, in English or Malay, are read so their text can be searched and analysed. A study whose full text you are still waiting for can be saved with its details and marked "No PDF"; add the PDF later from the paper's drawer. The AI analyses only papers that have their PDF, so nothing is charged for the others.
The literature matrix turns the included papers into a comparison table. You describe a column in plain words, such as "population and setting", "intervention" or "outcome measures", see the credit estimate first, and run it across every paper. Each AI value keeps its page number and a verbatim quote that CurTask has checked is on that page. When there is no source, the cell says "No source found" rather than guessing. Values stay marked Suggested until you accept, edit or restore them, and the matrix exports as CSV for your supplementary files.
From extracted data to themes
Many reviews, especially in education and the social sciences, need more than a table. CurTask lets you code passages in the full texts, shown as coloured strips beside the text, with memos and a codebook whose colours stay easy to tell apart. On the synthesis map you group codes into themes and mark which papers agree, contradict or extend each other. Coding by hand is on every plan; on paid plans the AI codes every included paper at the push of a button and sorts your codes into categories and themes, each suggestion yours to accept or dismiss. This gives a thematic or narrative synthesis a clear trail from each theme back to the passages behind it.
Writing the review where the evidence lives
When it is time to write, the Writing lens holds your review in sections you can reorder, with binder, corkboard and outline views. A theme from the synthesis map can be sent to the draft with its passages. Cite with @ in one of eight styles, including APA, IEEE, AMA and Harvard, and each citation can link back to the passage in the PDF through the evidence line, and optional marks show sentences that have no citation yet. Compile the finished review to Word, PDF, Markdown or HTML. Beside the draft, the writing sidebar builds on the analysis you have accepted (matrix values, coded passages, themes and links): up to three cards per paragraph, contradictions first, each with its page and verified quote.
Private, in Malaysia, priced in ringgit
Your papers, notes and writing are stored on servers in Malaysia, visible only to you, and never used to train AI. The interface is in English and Bahasa Melayu. Every AI run shows its credit cost before it starts, and if your balance cannot cover it, nothing runs halfway. Plans are priced in ringgit, with a free plan and a Student plan for university students. You can download all your data at any time, on every plan, as one ZIP file in open formats, with your references as BibTeX, RIS and CSL-JSON, which helps when you archive a review.
When Rayyan might suit you
If your priority is screening thousands of records with co-reviewers, resolving conflicts and reporting the flow of studies, Rayyan is a well-established choice used by researchers around the world, with a free plan to start.
Using both
A natural workflow is to screen in Rayyan and analyse and write in CurTask. When screening is finished, gather the full-text PDFs of your included studies and drag them into CurTask. It fills in each paper's details from the DOI, which you can edit, and checks for duplicates so nothing is stored or analysed twice. Report your screening from Rayyan, and build the extraction matrix, synthesis and written review in CurTask.
Screen where you like, then bring your included studies to CurTask and start on the free plan.
